You can now read a fictional story I wrote for THIS Magazine. This is the first time I’ve had my writing paired with an illustration by someone else and it’s sort of fascinating how Xulin Wang interpreted the characters and the aesthetic of the piece versus how I saw things in my mind. It does capture how this work is a real departure from what I usually write about and how I write. This story is a lot gentler and more sentimental than my usual fare. I based it on personal observations and many, many conversations I’ve had with BIPOC into climate justice so that really informed the tone.
